My rating: 4 of 5 stars
I loved it so much. The way Rooney writes is fantastic and wonderful, the metaphors and the flow of the language, the ebbs and twists of the story, the look into the thoughts of our protagonist paired with the events around her sweeping her up.
I think this is my new favourite book where the narrator tells the story, and so things get skewed. Our protagonist, Frances, is not an unreliable narrator in the traditional sense, but she definitely is an unreliable of a sort. As the book goes on, this becomes apparent, and the reader is forced to factor her into it.
The characters are well-written, the story is heartfelt and grounded in those little real experiences that feel so strange when they are happening to you, the themes are interesting and sometimes wrenching. This was a good book.
